How to Track Lost Mobile with IMEI number?

Topic: CEIR website. A few years ago I have lost my mobile while travelling on a train, someone has stolen the device while I was asleep. I couldn’t do anything that point of time apart from buying a new mobile phone.

This could have happened with you or your friends, family. Every single day there is a huge number of people losing their mobile devices.

In most of the cases, the mobile device goes untraceable and irrecoverable. Moreover, the stolen mobiles are being sold in the open market with tampered IMEI (International mobile equipment index) numbers.

CEIR Website

To address this issue, Depart of telecommunications (DoT) has launched CEIR website last year in India.

With this CEIR mobile tracker website, the Government is trying to provide some sort of relief system in place to address this concern.

What is CEIR Website?

CEIR stands for central equipment identity register. As the name suggests, this CEIR project’s aim is to have the details of all stolen or lost mobiles in the country.

How CEIR website works?

CEIR’s main objective is to restrict the forged mobile device market and to depress mobile phone stealing, help consumers to track, block or stolen mobiles in the country.

DoT’s newly launched central equipment identity register (CEIR) will be connected to IMEI data base of all the mobile service providers in India.

CIER will operate as a platform for all mobile network companies to provide black listed mobiles phones data so that the mobile phone gets blocked in all other networks even if the SIM gets changed.

How to block a stolen mobile device on CEIR Portal?

Here are the 4 simple steps to block a stolen smart phone with the help of CIER portal.

  1. If you lost your mobile, first you need to report with the police and keep the copy of the report (FIR) along with you.
  2. You need to contact your mobile network service provider (Ex-Airtel,Jio, Vodafone etc) and get the duplicate SIM card. This is very important because you need the OTP to submit the request for blocking the stolen device.
  3. Now you require these scan copies of the documents to proceed further. A copy of police report, your id proof and your phone’s bill/invoice.
  4. Head over to CEIR official website and fill out the registration form for blocking the IMEI of the stole/lost device and submit.
  5. You will receive a request ID post submitting the form. Please note this for future reference and to check the status of your request.

Similarly, you can unblock the IMEI of the stolen/lost device, once you have found the same. You need to submit a similar form to unblock the IMEI.
